Welcome to The 5th Home Nation!
We have created this website to provide you with independent English-language coverage of Polish sport. Polish is the most common language after English in England and Wales, spoken by well over half a million people. The strong Polish presence felt in the United Kingdom across our communities, mainly in the form of your local ‘Polski Sklep’ (Polish shop), gives you the sense that there is another country located on these isles – a 5th home nation.
Poland’s influence in the UK spans many decades, from the aftermath of the Second World War to a renewed generation in the 2000s. This has left a legacy of many British born and speaking people of Polish heritage who can call more than onc place “home”. Sport has the power to create an emotional connection, even to events which may happen many miles away. Our aim is to intensify that attachment to an English-speaking audience, whether you are based in the UK or elsewhere.
T5HN will provide regular round-ups, interviews and opinions of Polish sport. We will focus on the “traditional” men’s and women’s sports, and extend our coverage to sports popular in Poland, such as handball.
Whilst all of our stories will be available to read here at www.t5hn.com, you can follow us on social media to be notified of the latest updates to our site. We would also like to hear from you so, whether that’s feedback on our coverage or ideas for stories, please get in touch here.
